There is a lot of uncertainty on what the administration will do for the basketball season. Covid-19 has really left everyone scratching their head for answers. So far, all of the fall sports were able to take place. However, all of the fall sports take place outside, where there is plenty of space. This differs from basketball because it is indoors and in a much smaller space. 

All of the questions revolve around what they’re going to do with fans. Mount Michael still complies to the “six-feet” rule for extracurricular activities and sports. This makes things a bit difficult because few students can fit into that tight-packed student section when six feet apart. 

So should students attend? If so, how many? Also, are they going to just let the players play against other teams just like that because basketball is literally all unmasked contact, the one thing that needs to be avoided during the pandemic. 

Unfortunately, the answer to all of these questions remains a mystery. However, there are plenty of ideas up in the air. The school could allow certain classes to come, for example only seniors and juniors, or they could only allow students to come and distance all around the court and not have family members attend. Whatever they do will have some sacrifice. Obviously, not everyone can show up to the games, so it all depends on if students or family members are allowed to go. 

As for the players, it is also uncertain. Nothing has come up that has indicated that there will be basketball being played as of yet. 

When it comes to the players, the administration should allow them to play, but make sure the players follow strict guidelines when at practice and before games. The players can’t really social distance, but they can keep masks on during practice and frequently get their temperatures checked. 

As for the fans, they should only allow students. If the school can’t allow every class of students to come, they should just let upperclassmen as they have little time left to enjoy Mount Michael sports. 

Another idea could be alternating between family members and students for certain games. It does seem trashy, but this way both family members and students can witness a certain amount of games. 

There are many ideas up in the air and all of them could get declined, so unfortunately, it’s all just a matter of waiting.
