With the adjustments made due to the Coronavirus, one aspect of residential life changed: the format of Wednesday night visits.
In warm weather the move to holding these visits outside worked well, however with the temperature dropping, students and families have been forced to cram into cars and eat their food or skip visits altogether. The current plan is still to limit visits to outside the campus buildings.
“We are going to continue with Wednesday night visits, but people will not be able to go inside,” Head of School Dr. David Peters said. “I know there are some families that have also gone off-site to have dinner too and that is fine.”
This leaves students with a choice of going off campus to eat with their families or finding other ways to stay warm and still enjoy each other’s company. Louis Mixan ‘21 and his family can see have made plans to stay warm.
“I think my family and I are planning on trying out some new restaurants near Mount Michael this winter,” Mixan said. “I will miss eating inside with other classmates’ families, but I think this will be a good opportunity to try new food.”
Besides eating together, another option families have on Wednesday nights is visiting the bookstore. Recently bookstore manager, Shelly Rodgers, eliminated the requirement to make an appointment to come to the bookstore, making shopping during visits easier.
“Many people like to stop in while they are visiting their sons. Rogers said. “I think it gives families a sense of normalcy, as many families have had a tradition of going to the bookstore.”
Mixan is glad the appointment requirement has been changed.
“Having the bookstore open is definitely a lifesaver,” Mixan said. “If my family couldn’t come inside I don’t think they would come out for visits as much.”
