Basketball-Roshone
Mr. John Roshone ‘99 has a rich background in the sport of basketball, leading him to his addition to the U.S.A. Basketball team, a.k.a. “The Le’Avengers.” Also, Roshone, along with his tall stature, has both coached and played on The Mount Michael basketball team giving him the knowledge and skills to excel.
Equestrian- Nolan
Ms. Emily Nolan is a well-known equestrian and spends much time in the stables with her horses. So, not only will she know how to ride the horses, but she understands them each individually on a deeper level.
Marathon- Gathje
This pick should be the most undisputed and agreed upon in this particular list. To begin, Mr. Gathje has been coaching cross-country and track and field for multiple decades here at The Mount. Gathje, up until a recent injury, would typically join his athletes on their practice runs and still manages to keep up with the top runners and sometimes ends up outrunning them. Also, Gathje holds the 5k Minnesota State Record at the state course.
Cycling Road-Abbot
Abbott Michael Liebl spends most of his afternoons after the school day riding his bicycle through the streets and backroads of Elkhorn. Additionally, Abbott Michael spent his high school autumns on the cross-country team, which helps to increase his understanding of his own endurance, helping him to soar above the rest in this race.
Racewalking- Mr. Smith
Mr. Smith can be seen walking everyday either inside or outside depending on the weather and other factors. He puts in over 15,000 steps a day and does so with a little skip in his step. This increased speed and perfected form of his walking would lead him to a very successful career in Olympic Racewalking.
Rugby- Srta. Smith
Srta. Smith would make an excellent addition to the women’s national rugby team due to her participation in her college rugby team.
Wrestling- Sullivan
As a high schooler, Sullivan won state championships and was a very dominant force on the wrestling mat due to his speed, strength, and smart decision making, which is arguably more important than all other skills.
