I have tragic news. As of now, the David’s Dinos segment is officially retired from The Mount. Taking its place is the beautiful segment of Cryptid Creatures. Don’t know what Cryptid means? Me neither. To help with this transition, the first segment will be about a lost dinosaur that many already know about: Nessie.
The Loch Ness Monster is the oldest known Cryptid, with accounts of it dating back to 500 A.D. This beast is said to live in Loch Ness Lake, the largest body of water in the Scottish Highlands. The first sighting was actually recorded by a Saint. According to legend, after hearing about the murders by the sea monster, St. Columba, who was an Irish abbot and missionary, took matters in his own hands (or God’s). He had one of his brothers go swim out in the lake. Immediately, the beast surfaced going straight towards the man. St. Columba then made a sign of the cross and called upon God to expel the beast. Immediately, Nessie was seen to have been “yanked” back into the depths by ropes, and she was never seen again.
While there are many reports of the Loch Ness Monster, none have held any significance. All media pieces including that one very famous picture have been debunked (it was just a toy submarine with a plastic head attached to it). This monster may not have substantial evidence right now, but that doesn’t mean people won’t stop searching. The Loch Ness Monster is here to stay, and I’m just glad we got a pretty good Scooby Doo move out of it.
