Brothers bond during night of junior tradition

Mason Matukewicz ’20, Max Swiniarski ’20, and Alex Schrier ’20 prepare to sing “Firework” by Katy Perry. While solo performances dominated the night, several groups sang during Karaoke night.

The juniors’ karaoke night on March 20 was a fun way for classmates to bond over laughter and music.

“I think the best part was the music. There were good songs this year, and the atmosphere was a lot better than last — people were just having a good time,” Jerry Fan ‘20 said.

Among songs chosen by juniors were “i’m so tired…,” a collaboration between Lauv and Troye Sivan, “When I Was Your Man,” by Bruno Mars, and “Firework,” originally sung by Katy Perry.

Set up on the stage, karaoke night was fitted with a projector screen and sound system, complete with a pair of microphones and computer.

“I provided all of the technology for the night, and then I helped plan when it was and figure out who was going,” Ian Miller ‘20 said.

Junior dean Scott Townsend ‘14 ordered the class 15 pizzas from Little Caesars. Soda and candy were also available at the makeshift food bar.

While some ate and sang, others danced.

“My favorite part was watching Mason [Matukewicz ‘20] bust out his sweet dance moves,” Tony Tragiai ‘20 said.

As the night went on more memories and bonds were formed.

“When that last song came on, everyone was singing. They were all just belting it out together. It was awesome to see them together like that,” Townsend said.

A tradition they started as sophomores, karaoke night continued to be a favorite among the junior class.

“The juniors have kind of taken on karaoke night as their thing. I definitely think it’ll be something that they want to do again,” Townsend said.
