A South American native that loves the mountains around Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, and Bolivia, the Spectacled Bear is the only species of bear originally from South America. Research shows that these bears prefer different habitats depending on the weather and season. Even though these bears are quite small compared to other species of bear, they weigh around 200-400 pounds and are among the largest mammals in South America. The name “spectacled” come from the secondary colors that look like eyebrows and a beard painted on their face. The Spectacled Bear is not one to be afraid of, they are one of 2 bear species in the world to be herbivorous along with the Panda.
