Bowling is a sport that has slang for all things possible in the game. For example, “Brooklyn” is when you hit the opposite pocket for the pins. Another would be a “Greek Church” which is a difficult five pin split. The most well-known is the “turkey.” A turkey is when you hit three strikes in a row and get the max number of pins for one frame. This season, the Mount Michael bowling team has taken bowling turkeys to new heights.
Mount Michael has had a joint bowling partnership with Duchesne Academy since 2024. This year the Mount Michael bowling team joined in on a special celebration with the Duchesne bowlers. It’s a turkey hat named Tobobvious. Tobobvious is seen as an honorary member of the Duchesne bowlers.
Besides getting to wear Tobobvious on your head after getting a turkey, bowlers also get a picture of them and Tobobvious posted on the Duchesne bowlers Instagram account @dabowlers.
After getting his first Turkey, Hudson Hatch ‘29 said, “It was like a dream come true putting on Tobobvious. Wearing the hat made me feel like a king.”
Tobobvious comes from a lineage of previous Duchesne bowlers. Julia Drickey, a senior at Duchesne, said, “He became part of this team only a couple years ago and he was passed down through the Duchesne senior class.” Drickey said, “Tobobvious and I just felt destined to be with each other.”
His origin is unknown, but these details don’t matter. All the bowlers care about is that he is a valuable part of the team.
Liam Casey ‘27 said, “Stepping on the lanes and hunting for the turkey is an incredible feeling.”
Hank Behrendt ‘26 agreed. “Tobobvious brings this kind of impact for all of us.
Tobobvious blends the teams together and provides a positive morale,” Behrendt said.
Julia Drickey said, “Wearing the hat for the first time felt like such an accomplishment.”
Following the end of this year’s season, a new owner of Tobobvious will be crowned and the lineage will continue. Until then, the bowling team will continue hunting for turkeys.
