Golf Room Renovations

Landen Fogle’22 practices on the virtual golf range in the simulator.

Mount Michael took the initiative in growing its athletic department in recent months by partnering with Jordan, updating locker rooms, purchasing new sporting equipment, and installing a new golf simulator. Through generous donations from Kent Christenson, head coach of the golf team, and Athletic Director Derrik Spooner, Mount Michael was able to purchase a full golf simulator for the team.

“The golf simulator is a great addition to our athletic facilities,” Spooner said. “It took a while to get the logistics together, but the room ended up working out great.”

The golf simulator was installed in January and has been available for the golf team members to use in the off season. The Mount Michael maintenance crew refurbished the visiting team locker room to accommodate the new simulator which included installing an interior wall to separate the hitting bay from the putting area.

The room includes a brand new Foresight sports GC3 golf tracker, plus new nets and putting greens. The new room is located in the visiting locker room during the spring season, allowing the entire team to practice

“It’s a great addition for us,” Sawyer Thompson ‘22 said. “Starting in March, it’s usually pretty hard to practice because of the weather.” This simulator gives us a huge advantage.”

The Foresight Sports launch monitor makes it easy for golfers to see their statistics, including launch angle, club speed and distance. With the addition of another camera, the simulator records one’s swing. This allows golfers to look back and watch recordings and improve their game.

“The golf simulator will be a great way to improve our swings,” Trevor Gutschewski ‘25 said. “The ability to know the numbers allows for lower scores on the course.”

The team placed first in the state tournament last year and hopes to become back-to-back state champions. The simulator will only add to the success of the team as they enter into the spring season.
